
Brussels, March 16: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a significant meeting with European Union foreign ministers in the capital of Belgium. This marked the second day of his two-day visit.
During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening India-EU relations, trade and investment, technology, and defense cooperation. The situation in West Asia, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific region was also extensively reviewed.
Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet my EU counterparts in Brussels on Monday. I thank EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, for inviting me to this Foreign Affairs Council meeting.”
A new chapter in India-EU relations began in 2026. The External Affairs Minister coordinates efforts to translate various agreements into concrete outcomes. Therefore, our discussions today specifically addressed topics such as trade, investment, technology, mobility, and defense.
The growing consensus between India and the EU in a multipolar world is evident in the in-depth discussions between both sides. Today’s meeting also covered the conflict in West Asia, the situation in Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific region.
During this trip, Jaishankar also mentioned meetings with Germany’s Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul and Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini. He noted on social media, “It was great to meet Germany’s Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul. We had a meaningful exchange of views on the ongoing conflict in West Asia.”
In another post, he shared, “I was pleased to meet Slovakia’s Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár today. The visit of Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini to India has given new momentum to our relations. We discussed our bilateral agenda, including advancing cooperation in manufacturing, defense, and space sectors.”
Jaishankar also shared details of his meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on social media. He wrote, “I was very pleased to meet European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday afternoon. Her highly successful state visit to India in January has proven to be a significant turning point in our relations. We are actively moving forward on this. We appreciate her insights on contemporary global developments.”
