Jaipur Schools Adjust Timings Amid Severe Heat Wave

Jaipur, April 23: In response to rising temperatures and extreme heat, the Jaipur district administration has taken a significant step to protect students. Starting April 27, schools will operate from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. This revised schedule applies to students up to grade 8, aiming to shield them from the intense midday heat and prolonged exposure to sunlight.

District Collector Sandesh Nayak announced this decision after a meeting with education department officials. He emphasized strict adherence to the new timings and warned that violations could lead to action under disaster management laws.

Officials stressed that this initiative prioritizes the health and safety of children, especially as temperatures continue to rise and heatwave conditions are expected to worsen in the coming days. By shifting school hours to the morning, the administration aims to minimize students’ exposure to harsh sunlight and hot winds.

Recently, Rajasthan has been experiencing severe heat, with Chittorgarh recording the highest daytime temperatures and Barmer experiencing the warmest nights. Over ten districts have seen temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius, disrupting daily life and causing significant discomfort for schoolchildren and vulnerable populations.

According to the Jaipur Meteorological Center, clear skies are likely over the next four to five days, with temperatures expected to rise by another 2 degrees Celsius. A heatwave is forecasted for several districts between April 23 and 25, with serious conditions anticipated in parts of the state.

In the Jodhpur division, strong winds of 20-30 kilometers per hour are expected on April 22 and 23, although no significant relief from the ongoing heat is anticipated. The impact of rising temperatures is already evident in Jaipur, where intense sunlight and high humidity have made conditions unbearable both day and night.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the heatwave will persist in several districts of eastern and western Rajasthan. Cities like Bharatpur, Dholpur, Alwar, Kota, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar are expected to see temperatures exceeding 40 degrees in the coming days.
