Jackie Shroff Pays Tribute to Legendary Actress Shammi on Her Death Anniversary

Mumbai, March 6: Renowned actress Shammi, who ruled the hearts of audiences for nearly five decades with her powerful performances, is remembered on her death anniversary today. Actor Jackie Shroff paid a heartfelt tribute to her on this occasion.

Shroff shared an old photograph of Shammi on his official Instagram account, captioning it, “You will always live on in our memories.”

Fans were deeply moved by Jackie Shroff’s post. Many commented that Shammi’s smile and her effortless acting continue to resonate with people today.

Shammi was active in the entertainment industry for almost sixty years. Born as Nargis Rabadi, she became widely popular as ‘Shammi Aunty.’ She portrayed various roles such as aunties, grandmothers, and elderly women, making her a household name.

An interesting story surrounds her name change to ‘Shammi.’ It is said that during the early stages of her career, when Nargis Rabadi was searching for work, she landed her first film, ‘Ustad Pedro.’ The film’s producer, Sheikh Mukhtar, advised her to change her name to avoid confusion with the well-known actress Nargis Dutt at that time. Thus, Nargis Rabadi became ‘Shammi.’

In addition to films, Shammi also made her mark on television. She left an indelible impression in comedy with shows like ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh,’ ‘Jabaan Sambhal Ke,’ ‘Shriman Shrimati,’ ‘Kabhi Ye Kabhi Wo,’ and ‘Filmi Chakkar.’

Shammi was the younger sister of fashion designer Mani Rabadi. Her marriage to filmmaker Sultan Ahmed ended after seven years. She was a close friend of actress Nargis Dutt. Shammi showcased her acting prowess in films such as ‘Malhar’ (1951), ‘Ilzaam’ (1954), ‘Halaku’ (1956), ‘Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai’ (1960), ‘Half Ticket’ (1962), ‘Coolie No. 1’ (1991), ‘Gopi Kishan’ (1994), ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’ (1999), and ‘Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi’ (2013).
