Tel Aviv, March 23: A new and serious escalation has occurred in the ongoing military conflict between Iran and Israel. Following a series of attacks that began on February 28, 2026, Iran targeted Israel’s nuclear sites in Arad and Dimona on Saturday. This marks the first time Iran has aimed at Israel’s nuclear facilities. In response, Israeli President Isaac Herzog visited the affected areas on Sunday and issued a stern warning to Iran.
Fortunately, there were no Israeli casualties from the Iranian attack, although it did cause damage to buildings. A bakery in Arad was among the structures impacted. President Herzog met with the bakery owner during his visit and later shared his thoughts on the social media platform X.
The Israeli President revealed that the bakery owner’s son had been kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023. However, he was returned as part of a hostage release agreement. Herzog wrote, “Last night, the House of Bread bakery in Arad was hit by an Iranian missile attack. The owners are the Kalpon family from Dimona, whose beloved son Segev was kidnapped in Gaza and returned to us in a previous hostage deal.”
He further expressed that this family has endured significant hardship, suffering, and prayers, and now their business has also been affected. Despite everything, he felt hopeful seeing their smiles, faith, and the resilient Israeli spirit.
President Herzog emphasized, “Supporting small businesses is supporting the entire Israeli spirit. Sending lots of love to them and all the people in the area. This is the best expression of ‘Israeli nationalism.’”
During his visit to Dimona, he noted, “We are here in Dimona, in a hostel for people with special needs.” Despite the devastation from the Iranian attack, Herzog confirmed that no lives were lost, attributing this to the community’s prompt response to the sirens, which prompted people to seek shelter in bunkers. He stated, “Fortunately, no one lost their life because municipalities and people heeded the warnings.”
Directly addressing Iran, President Herzog said, “I want to tell our enemies in Iran that you are mistaken. By sending missiles to kill humans, you continue to commit crimes against humanity, regardless of age, gender, religion, or even disability.”
He added that Israel will endure and ultimately prevail. Herzog declared, “You are wrong. We have always shown greater strength. We know that under your leadership, there is destruction and chaos. We are confident that not only will we win, but you will also fall flat.”
After weeks of fighting, the Israeli President outlined the strategic objective, stating, “The war will end when it is clear that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons and certainly cannot have its ballistic capabilities.”
