Former Indian Spinner Lakshman Shivramakrishnan Appointed Spin Bowling Coach at Assam Cricket Academy

North Guwahati, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Lakshman Shivramakrishnan, the former Indian leg-spinner, has been appointed as the spin bowling coach at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Academy. His one-year contract begins this month.

According to a statement from ACA Secretary Sanatan Das, Shivramakrishnan will work with young and promising spinners at the ACA Cricket Academy located in Fulung, North Guwahati. Renowned for his exceptional leg-breaks, googlies, and top-spin deliveries, he will implement a structured coaching program.

Shivramakrishnan, a resident of Chennai, enjoyed a notable career in Test and One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He played a key role in India’s success during the 1985 Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket held in Australia.

Making his international debut at a young age, he played nine Test matches and 16 ODIs, claiming 26 and 15 wickets, respectively. His best Test performance came in 1984 against England in Mumbai, where he took six wickets for 64 runs. After retiring from cricket, he became a well-known commentator.

The 60-year-old has also served as a player representative on the ICC Cricket Committee. He recently visited the academy and conducted a session on leg-spin bowling techniques on October 18.

This appointment comes at a time when Shivramakrishnan publicly expressed his desire to join the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a coach. He reached out to LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka on the social media platform X, offering his services and expressing confidence in enhancing the franchise’s spin attack.

Earlier this year, Shivramakrishnan announced on his X account that he had resigned from the BCCI commentary panel, citing a lack of sufficient opportunities to conduct tosses and presentations. He later mentioned that the discrimination he faced during his playing career continued to affect him in his broadcasting career.
