IPL 2027 Retention Deadline Extended to November 17 Due to India-New Zealand ODI Clash
The BCCI has extended the IPL 2027 retention deadline to November 17, coinciding with an ODI match between India and New Zealand.

New Delhi, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their retention lists to November 17. Initially set for November 15, this extension will allow teams two additional days to finalize their decisions. The change comes in light of the fifth and final ODI match between India and New Zealand, scheduled for the same day.
According to official communications from the BCCI, the retention deadline was moved to avoid any overlap with the ODI match, which could have impacted media coverage of the retention announcements. The IPL 2027 player auction is still set to take place on December 16 in Goa.
The registration process for players looking to enter the auction began on Monday and will run until November 23. This gives players worldwide approximately three weeks to submit their names for consideration. The entire process from registration to auction will span just over six weeks.
Interestingly, the auction day will also coincide with another international match, as India is set to play Sri Lanka in a second ODI at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Currently, there are no indications that either the auction date or the Bengaluru ODI will be rescheduled.
Following the registration period, the auction register will be finalized on November 24. Teams will have until November 27 to submit requests for additional players, including those not initially registered. Franchises must submit their final auction lists by December 1, with the complete list of players and their auction sets revealed on December 3.
This timeline allows teams nearly two weeks to strategize before the auction on December 16. So far, two trades have been completed ahead of the 2027 IPL mini-auction. The Delhi Capitals have re-signed former captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant from the Lucknow Super Giants, while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved to Lucknow. Additionally, the Capitals sent left-arm fast bowler T. Natarajan back to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari.
The dates for the 2027 IPL season have yet to be confirmed. When the IPL announced its schedule for three seasons in 2024, it indicated that the 2027 season would take place between March 14 and May 30. Following the BCCI’s annual general meeting in September, Board Secretary Devjeet Saikia suggested that the tournament could kick off around the end of March.
This auction in Goa marks the return of the event to India after three years. It will be the last mini-auction of the current cycle, as a mega auction is planned before the 2028 season. At the same time, a new media rights cycle will begin, with the BCCI yet to issue tenders for this. The current media rights were sold for ₹48,390.5 crore in 2022.
