Irfan Wishes Vaibhav Success as He Joins Indian T20 Team

New Delhi, June 6: The Indian T20 team has been announced for the upcoming matches against Ireland, England, and the 2026 Asian Games. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of Team India. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made waves with his explosive batting in IPL 2026, has earned his first call-up to the national team. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan extended his best wishes to both Iyer and Vaibhav for their future endeavors.

Pathan congratulated Shreyas Iyer on becoming the new T20 captain via the social media platform ‘X’. He wrote, “Congratulations to Shreyas Iyer on being appointed captain of the Indian team. We hope you take Indian cricket to new heights.” Iyer has taken over the captaincy from Suryakumar Yadav, despite being out of the T20 squad for a significant period. His last T20 International match was against Australia on December 3, 2023.

Iyer has been a topic of discussion due to his outstanding performance in the IPL. In 2024, he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory, and in 2025, under his captaincy, the Punjab Kings reached the finals. His performance in IPL 2026 also remained impressive.

Irfan also congratulated Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made his way into the Indian team at just 15 years of age. He expressed, “Congratulations to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. I hope your international career is the longest. May God bless you.” Vaibhav made headlines in IPL 2026 with his explosive batting.

In 16 innings, he scored 776 runs at a strike rate of 237, earning the Orange Cap. He became the player with the most sixes in a single IPL season, breaking Chris Gayle’s record by hitting 72 sixes. He is also the youngest player to win the Orange Cap and the uncapped player with the highest runs in a single season.
