Belfast, June 22: Ireland has officially announced its T20 squad for the upcoming series against India. Lorcan Tucker will lead the 14-member team, stepping in as captain with several senior players sidelined due to injuries. The two-match series is scheduled for June 26 and 28.
Tucker has served as vice-captain since 2025 and has previously captained the team on two occasions. Now, he takes over the full captaincy from Paul Stirling, marking a significant shift as Ireland appoints different captains across all formats.
The squad sees the inclusion of Matthew Holland and Jai Mundra, both receiving their first call-ups to the senior team. Young bowler Ruben Wilson also makes his T20 debut following his Test debut against New Zealand last month.
Significant changes have been made to the T20 team, with six regular players out due to serious injuries. This includes Josh Little (stress fracture), Mark Adair (rectus muscle tear), white-ball star Paul Stirling (calf muscle tear), Curtis Campher (hand fracture), Barry McCarthy (complete ACL tear), and Jordan Neale (shoulder and leg injuries).
Regarding his leadership philosophy, Tucker stated, “My approach to captaincy is to lead by example and be present with the team. I believe I have good relationships with all staff and players, and I can work with honesty and empathy. My goal is to bring out the best in them and give them the opportunity to excel both individually and as a team. If I ask them to do something, I want it to be clear that I have done the same myself.”
The Ireland T20 team includes: Lorcan Tucker (captain), Ross Adair, Ben Killitz, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Stephen Doheny, Matthew Humphries, Gavin Hoey, Matthew Holland, Liam McCarthy, Jai Mundra, Harry Tector, Tim Tector, and Ruben Wilson.
