Tehran, May 11: Iran’s President Masoud Pageheshkian has urged not to misinterpret ongoing peace talks with the United States as a sign of weakness. In a recent social media post, Pageheshkian emphasized the importance of maintaining Iran’s rights and national interests.
He stated, “We will not bow our heads before the enemy. If discussions or negotiations arise, it does not mean surrender or retreat. Instead, it aims to uphold Iran’s rights and robustly protect our national interests.”
His remarks followed a statement from the Iranian military, asserting that they would respond decisively to any aggression. The military believes that the period of “strategic patience” has ended.
According to Al Jazeera, military officials warned that any threats to national interests, coastal areas, or oil tankers would be met with a strong response. Recent increases in activity and attacks around Iran’s maritime zones and oil tankers have placed the military on high alert.
An Iranian military spokesperson warned that any attack would be countered with new military technologies, modern weapons, and revised combat strategies. They claimed that potential adversaries could face a “big surprise.”
Iran has also issued indirect warnings to countries supporting economic and oil sanctions against it in collaboration with the United States. The military indicated that such nations might encounter difficulties navigating the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil supply.
Meanwhile, a meeting between an Iranian commander and the Supreme Leader has garnered attention. Iranian media reported that military commander Ali Abdullahi met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. The meeting reportedly focused on regional conditions, military readiness, and future strategies.
Reports suggest that Khamenei praised the Iranian military and advised taking new steps to confront enemies with full strength. However, detailed information about these strategies and plans has not been made public.
