New Delhi, June 15: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran aimed at ending conflict in West Asia.
PM Modi praised this initiative via the social media platform X. He stated, “I welcome the agreement between the US and Iran to end the conflict in West Asia. This conflict has caused severe economic disruptions worldwide and has claimed lives in many countries.”
In his statement, the Prime Minister expressed hope for peace. He remarked, “The effective implementation of this new understanding is expected to restore peace and stability in the region. It will also aid in ensuring unhindered movement in maritime routes and securing global trade.”
The Prime Minister expressed optimism that discussions on remaining issues between the two parties would progress positively, ultimately leading to a lasting and comprehensive agreement.
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump announced the agreement on Truth Social. In his post, he stated, “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!”
Trump mentioned the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz in his post, writing, “Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow.” Iran also issued a statement upon finalizing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The US President described this as a significant achievement after months of negotiations, which had adversely affected global energy markets and raised fears of a major regional war.
In another post, Trump referred to the agreement as a historic success. He wrote, “This great agreement will bring peace and security to the entire region. Many presidents have tried to make peace with Iran, and all have failed before me. For the first time, the leaders of the region have a president who can help them achieve real peace. After the signing of the agreement on Friday and the opening of the Strait to remove maritime mines, the flow of oil will resume in both directions for the region and the whole world!”
Since this announcement, there has been a collective sigh of relief globally. Leaders from various countries have welcomed the news. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, along with Foreign Minister Penny Wong, issued a joint statement expressing satisfaction that the agreement includes steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore freedom of navigation.
