New Delhi, August 9: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Islamic Revolution leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei to mark the beginning of his third year in office. The discussion focused on Iran’s economic, security, and regional challenges.
According to a report by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the leader’s office announced that the meeting took place on Sunday, where Pezeshkian and Ayatollah Khamenei delved into various national issues and concerns.
The statement indicated that the primary focus of their conversation was on the livelihoods of the people, the current internal situation of the country, and strategies to confront the war conditions imposed by the United States and Israel. They also discussed issues related to the defense sector.
IRNA reported that Pezeshkian addressed resource management, better financial and energy expenditure, and economic cooperation with foreign countries and entities during the meeting.
Pezeshkian took the presidential oath on July 28, 2024. During the first two years of his presidency, Iran experienced foreign-backed protests, and the governments of the U.S. and Israel attacked the country twice.
This meeting comes at a time when Iran is grappling with economic, security, and regional challenges, while discussions on future policies and priorities continue among the country’s top leadership.
In an interview published on Friday on his office’s website, Pezeshkian stated that Tehran would continue on the path of peace under the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S., provided Washington helps create a trustworthy environment.
He emphasized that Iran is striving to advance on the path of peace based on the MOU’s provisions. He believes it is the best time to reach an agreement, as there is unity, strength, and solidarity within the country.
Pezeshkian noted that Iran would align its commitments with the level of compliance from the U.S. He further stated that if the other party resorts to force, Iran will not accept it. The ultimate basis for Iran’s actions will be the decisions of the Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
