New Delhi, August 9: The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has condemned Russia’s attacks on civilian infrastructure, stating that Russia is choosing the path of war over peace. Recent drone and missile strikes by Russia have resulted in multiple casualties and injuries across Ukraine.
The ministry shared information on the social media platform ‘X’, highlighting that the Kharkiv region was targeted, specifically the residential areas of Saltivka. One attack devastated the upper floors of a high-rise residential building, with rescue and relief operations still ongoing.
According to the ministry, several areas in Odesa suffered damage, leading to fires in multiple locations. A four-story residential building in the city center also caught fire, and numerous cars were damaged.
The ministry emphasized the need for increased pressure on Russia. It called for stringent and effective sanctions to weaken Russia’s weapon production capabilities and help prevent attacks on civilians.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also condemned the Russian strikes, sharing updates on the impact of these attacks on Odesa, Kharkiv, Pavlohrad, and other regions via a post on ‘X’.
Zelensky noted that efforts to restore electricity in Odesa and surrounding areas are ongoing following this severe attack on energy infrastructure. Essential services are working to address the damage caused to residential buildings and the port. He stated that Russia is systematically targeting global food security. So far, eight individuals have been reported injured, and all are receiving necessary assistance.
He reported that a direct drone strike in Kharkiv destroyed four floors of a residential high-rise, resulting in injuries and the deaths of two individuals. He expressed his condolences to their families.
Zelensky also mentioned a brutal attack near a shopping mall in Pavlohrad, injuring nine people, including four children. Additionally, attacks were reported in Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Kherson, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions.
The Ukrainian president stated that Russia continues to employ a strategy of terror through ballistic missile attacks, which are not limited to a single city or area. In just this week, 61 different types of missiles were used against Ukraine, including 56 ballistic missiles. Over 1,560 attack drones and 1,540 aerial bombs were also deployed.
He reiterated that every attack on human life serves as a reminder of the need for increased pressure on Russia, tougher sanctions, and improved air defense for Ukraine. He expressed gratitude to those supporting Ukraine.
