Iranian Foreign Minister to Discuss Regional Tensions During Diplomatic Tour

Islamabad, April 25: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi will convey Iran’s perspective on easing tensions with the United States and Israel during his visit to Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. This information was reported by the semi-official news agency Tasnim.

According to reports, Araghchi will embark on a diplomatic tour to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia. The purpose of these visits is to enhance coordination on mutual issues and discuss the current regional situation.

As per the Xinhua news agency, Araghchi will not engage in discussions with American officials during this trip.

Tasnim also noted that in Muscat, the capital of Oman, he will address regional issues and topics related to warfare, while in Russia, he will discuss bilateral, regional, and international conditions.

On Friday, Araghchi commented on his trip via a post on the social media platform X, stating that he is heading to Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow. He emphasized, “The aim of my visits is to establish close coordination with our partners on bilateral matters and consult on regional developments. Our neighbors are our priority.”

Tasnim further reported that Iran currently has no plans to engage in talks with the United States, and the purpose of Araghchi’s visit to Islamabad is not to negotiate with the American side.

According to Iranian state television IRIB, there are no plans for Araghchi to meet with U.S. officials, but Islamabad will serve as a communication channel to convey Iran’s stance.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the Iranian delegation, led by Araghchi, arrived in Pakistan on Friday night.

On February 28, Israel and the U.S. conducted a joint attack on Tehran and other Iranian cities, resulting in the deaths of then-Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, several senior commanders, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone strikes on Israeli and U.S. positions in the Middle East.

A ceasefire was established on April 8, followed by extensive discussions between Iran and the U.S. in Islamabad on April 11 and 12. However, these talks were unsuccessful. Subsequently, the U.S. imposed a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, affecting the movement of vessels to and from Iranian ports.

Reports suggested that another round of talks might occur in Pakistan this week, but Iran declined to participate due to the ongoing U.S. naval blockade and increased demands.
