Iran Threatens Retaliation Following Attacks on Energy Facilities

Tehran, March 9: Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters has called on Muslim countries in the region to prevent the United States and Israel from attacking Iran’s fuel and energy facilities. The nation has warned that it will respond similarly if such attacks continue.

Spokesperson Ibrahim Zolfaghari made this statement following attacks on several fuel storage centers in Tehran and the neighboring Alborz province by the U.S. and Israel on Saturday night. According to the Xinhua news agency, citing the Iranian Students News Agency, these assaults temporarily disrupted fuel supplies and raised health and environmental concerns.

Zolfaghari accused the U.S. and Israel of ruthlessly targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure and public service centers, resulting in civilian casualties. He urged Muslim nations in the region to warn the U.S. and Israel against such “cowardly and inhumane actions” to prevent further escalation of conflict.

He stated, “If this does not happen, similar retaliatory actions will occur in the region. If you can tolerate oil prices exceeding $200 per barrel, then let this game continue.”

This warning follows joint attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Tehran and several other Iranian cities on February 28, which resulted in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, some family members, several senior military commanders, and civilians. In response, Iran launched missile and drone strikes on Israeli and U.S. military bases in the Middle East in multiple phases.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had attacked a refinery in Haifa, Israel, as retaliation for the U.S. and Israeli assaults on Iran’s energy infrastructure.

An official statement from the IRGC, published on its news outlet Sepah News, reported that the Haifa refinery was struck by “Khyber Shakan” missiles.

Additionally, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company confirmed that the U.S. and Israeli attacks targeted the country’s energy infrastructure on Saturday night.

According to the company, missiles struck several oil storage centers in Tehran and Alborz province, igniting fires. Firefighting teams are currently working to control the blazes.

A surge in attacks was noted on Saturday night in Tehran, with loud explosions heard across various areas of the capital.
