Tel Aviv, March 14: The ongoing fierce conflict between Iran and the United States-Israel alliance has escalated tensions in the Middle East. In this context, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Brigadier General Effi Defrin discussed the IDF’s strategic objectives regarding the current disputes linked to Iran. He highlighted that Iran is now targeting commercial oil vessels in Gulf countries and the region, raising concerns about these attacks.
Brigadier General Defrin stated, “Two weeks ago, we took action to eliminate the threat posed to Israel. Iran has been developing its nuclear capabilities for years. They had a significant nuclear project, and when we attacked them in June, they were attempting to restart it. They are trying to conceal this project underground to evade aerial bombs from either Israel or the U.S. This poses a serious threat to us.”
He further elaborated on the missile threat, noting, “They are producing thousands of ballistic missiles and launchers, all manufactured in Iran. They are discussing ranges of 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers, which would enable them to reach and attack Israel.”
The IDF spokesperson revealed that Iran is producing dozens of weapons weekly or monthly, aiming to ramp up production to hundreds. “Two weeks ago, we reached a number that we could no longer tolerate, as these posed a direct threat to Israel. We had to act; we needed to intervene and stop this. Iran is now targeting commercial oil vessels in the Gulf and the region.”
Regarding Israel’s actions against Iran, the IDF spokesperson remarked, “This only reveals the true nature of this terrorist government. They have attacked several countries in the region, including Oman, the UAE, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia—nations that have never wronged Iran. They are not targeting military sites but civilian ones, such as the Burj Khalifa in Abu Dhabi and international airports in Qatar and Bahrain. They have not ceased their attacks.”
He emphasized that the recent attacks on neighboring countries reflect the government’s tendencies. “We maintain good relations with our neighboring countries. This is becoming history. We truly hope for a regional framework that fosters peaceful coexistence for Israel and the entire region. Iran is not just a threat to Israel; it is a regional issue.”
