Iranian Navy Responds to Oil Tanker Fire in Hormuz Straits Restricted Zone

The Iranian Navy reported an oil tanker fire in the Hormuz Strait after attempting to breach a restricted area.

Tehran, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Iranian Navy announced on Thursday that its surveillance teams detected an oil tanker violating regulations in the eastern region of the Hormuz Strait. The vessel caught fire while attempting to cross a “forbidden area.”

According to a statement released on the Navy’s website, the tanker had turned off its tracking system and was trying to navigate through the restricted zone. The Navy emphasized its complete control and dominance over the eastern areas of the Strait.

Reports from Xinhua indicated that earlier in the week, the Navy had identified another tanker violating the same regulations. This vessel was damaged and subsequently caught fire while passing through the restricted area east of the Hormuz Strait.

The Navy highlighted that it is closely monitoring all “enemy” activities and ship movements in the eastern Hormuz Strait, as well as the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman, through the recent deployment of its units.

In light of these events, the Navy has issued strict advisories to all vessels, urging them to comply with international regulations and keep their electronic systems operational. They also advised maintaining necessary coordination with Iran’s armed forces for safe passage through the Hormuz Strait.

In a statement, Habibollah Sayyari, the deputy chief of coordination for the Iranian army, declared that the Hormuz Strait is entirely closed. He noted that the naval forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps maintain full control over the western areas of the Strait, while the eastern regions up to the Gulf of Oman are under constant surveillance by the army’s naval capabilities.
