Washington, March 27: Iran’s alleged attempt to target a military base in the Indian Ocean has raised alarms in the United States. American officials have warned that Iran’s missile program is extending its reach to maritime areas near India.
Reports indicate that a missile was launched toward Diego Garcia, a crucial military base for the U.S. and the UK in the Indian Ocean. Lawmakers assert that this incident clearly demonstrates Iran’s growing capability to project power far beyond its borders.
General Stephen Whiting, head of the U.S. Space Command, stated that Iran’s missile and space programs are interconnected. He noted, “Ballistic missiles are essentially space rockets.”
According to U.S. officials, Iran has already developed several technologies necessary for long-range attacks. Senator Tom Cotton mentioned that Iran could enhance its strike capabilities by integrating launch systems with re-entry vehicle technology. A senior defense official concurred, indicating that Iran could achieve this capability swiftly.
Admiral Richard Carroll, head of U.S. Strategic Command, emphasized that Iran has showcased the necessary technology in this direction.
