Iran Asserts Control Over Strait of Hormuz, No Ships Allowed Without Permission

Tehran, May 3: Iran claims it has full control over the Strait of Hormuz. Mohammad Akraminia, a spokesperson for the Iranian military, stated that no ship can pass through this route without the army’s permission, regardless of whether it belongs to a friendly or enemy nation.

In footage broadcast by Iranian media, Akraminia emphasized that controlling the Strait of Hormuz is Iran’s “natural right,” although it has not exercised this right in recent years.

He said, “Currently, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the west and the country’s army in the east are controlling this strait with full power. No ship—friend or foe—has the right to pass through here without the permission and authority of our forces.”

Meanwhile, the semi-official news agency Fars reported that Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hamid Ghanbari mentioned that several countries are anxious and are continuously sending messages and letters to Iran, seeking permission for their ships to transit through the strait.

According to a report by the Xinhua news agency, Iran has intensified its enforcement in the Strait of Hormuz since February 28. It has denied safe passage to ships linked to Israel and the United States. This move follows a series of joint attacks on Iran.

Earlier on Thursday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated that a new phase is beginning in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. He indicated that a new legal framework and system would be implemented, benefiting all countries in the region with development and relief.

In a message on the occasion of the National Day of the Persian Gulf, Khamenei noted that Iran has made numerous sacrifices for the freedom of this region and has confronted foreign powers. He described the Islamic Revolution as a pivotal moment in these struggles. He also remarked that this area has always attracted the attention of major world powers, which have intervened multiple times, causing harm and insecurity to regional nations.

According to Khamenei, the new laws and management system for the Strait of Hormuz will bring development and economic benefits to all countries in the region. He stressed that the future of the Persian Gulf region will be bright, characterized by peace, development, and prosperity, free from American influence.
