IPL Cricketer Abhishek Porel Accused of Exploitation Under False Marriage Promises

Kolkata, June 23: Abhishek Porel, a cricketer playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), faces allegations of exploitation under the pretense of marriage. A senior police officer reported that a medical student from Karnataka filed a complaint at the Mogra police station in Hooghly district against him. Porel hails from Chandan Nagar in the same district.

Sources indicate that the 23-year-old cricketer has denied the accusations. It is known that he is currently in Bengaluru.

According to police, the complainant claims she was in a relationship with Porel for three years, during which they decided to marry. However, issues arose between them a year and a half ago, leading to a situation that reached the police station, although no formal complaint was filed at that time. This time, the young woman came with her mother to lodge an official complaint.

Following the emergence of the case, Kunwar Bhushan Singh, the Superintendent of Police for Hooghly (Rural), visited the Mogra police station. He discussed the matter with Inspector-in-Charge Soumen Biswas and DSP (Crime) Abhijit Singh Mahapatra. Police have confirmed that an investigation has commenced.

A senior officer stated, “The complaint has been registered. We have initiated an investigation.”

Abhishek Porel had the opportunity to play for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, stepping in for Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant. Although he played only four matches that season without scoring, the franchise retained him. In recent seasons, he has performed well, gaining the team’s trust as a young wicketkeeper.

Porel has scored 769 runs in 35 IPL matches at an average of 25.63, including four half-centuries. He has also accumulated 833 runs in 23 List-A matches at an average of 43.84, and 1,590 runs in 61 T20 matches at an average of 30.
