IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad Holds Edge Over RCB in Head-to-Head Record

New Delhi, March 26: The first match of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place on March 28 at the M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bengaluru, featuring Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Historically, Sunrisers Hyderabad has had the upper hand against RCB.

In IPL history, these two teams have faced each other 26 times. Sunrisers Hyderabad has won 13 matches, while RCB has secured victory in 11 games. Additionally, 2 matches ended without a result. Under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, RCB had an impressive performance last season, clinching their first title in 18 years.

On paper, RCB looks strong once again. The batting lineup, featuring Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, provided explosive starts last season. The Kohli-Salt opening partnership could pose significant challenges for opposing teams this season. Devdutt Padikkal had an outstanding domestic season and is expected to bat at number three. Tim David and Jitesh Sharma also made a mark with their explosive batting in IPL 2025. With the addition of Venkatesh Iyer, the batting order appears even more balanced.

However, RCB faces a setback as fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will not be available for the initial matches. In Hazlewood’s absence, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will shoulder significant responsibility. Yash Dayal will also be unavailable this season, making the performance of New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy crucial for RCB.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad will once again rely on their top order. Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan are expected to deliver strong performances. In the absence of Pat Cummins, Ishan will likely take on the captaincy in the early matches. Heinrich Klaasen was the leading run-scorer for the team last season. Finisher Aniket Verma impressed with his batting in IPL 2025, while Nitish Kumar Reddy aims to make a mark this season. Sunrisers Hyderabad also has high hopes for Liam Livingstone.

However, the bowling attack for Sunrisers Hyderabad appears relatively weak. With Cummins missing, Ishan Malinga, Harshal Patel, and Jaydev Unadkat will lead the pace attack. The team lacks a prominent spinner, but young spinner Zeeshan Ansari will look to make a significant impact in IPL 2026.
