
New Delhi, March 29: A special team from the Shahdara district has arrested two individuals on charges of vehicle theft. The suspects have been identified as Pawan (26) and Monu (25), both hailing from the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh. Police recovered a stolen Maruti Baleno car from their possession.
On March 25, while patrolling the area, the police noticed a suspicious car heading towards Seemapuri on the main GT Road. When the officers signaled the vehicle to stop and requested the driver to show documents, he attempted to flee. The police acted swiftly and apprehended him. An investigation revealed that the car was stolen and linked to an e-FIR registered at the Anand Vihar police station.
During interrogation, both suspects claimed they worked as laborers but turned to vehicle theft due to their addiction to alcohol. They specifically targeted vehicles parked in isolated areas to avoid detection.
The police are currently reviewing the suspects’ criminal records to determine their involvement in other theft cases in Delhi and surrounding areas. The investigation is ongoing.
In a separate operation, the Shahdara district’s AATS team achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting an active thief and vehicle robber. The suspect was found in possession of a stolen scooter, a large quantity of fake jewelry, and approximately 40.250 kilograms of Indian coins. This operation uncovered two cases of theft and vehicle robbery.
In response to the rising incidents of two-wheeler thefts in the Shahdara area, a special team was formed. Utilizing CCTV footage and confidential information, the team set up a sting operation on March 26, 2026, in the New Seemapuri area. They arrested Imran, also known as Irfan or Gajni (28), near the MCD parking on Delhi Road.
