Bhopal, May 19: The tragic death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma at her in-laws’ home has sparked significant controversy in Bhopal. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of long-term mental and physical abuse, dowry harassment, and using their influence to undermine the investigation.
Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Rajneesh Kashyap addressed these allegations in an exclusive interview on Monday.
Question: There are accusations against the police that, despite the seriousness of this case, no arrests have been made yet.
Answer: The police are proceeding step by step. An FIR was filed on May 14, and the investigation has been ongoing since then.
Question: Twisha’s family has claimed that the police failed to recover or officially document the specific item she used to hang herself, suggesting this was done to weaken the case.
Answer: The rope used for the hanging was indeed seized from the scene on the day of the incident. However, the officers who went to the site failed to submit it during the post-mortem investigation. We are currently looking into this oversight, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of this inquiry. The evidence has since been handed over to the forensic science laboratory team and is now stored at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal. Once we receive the forensic report, clarity on this matter will be achieved.
Question: The item used for the hanging could be crucial evidence. However, if forensic examination occurs four to five days later, could this raise doubts about its authenticity?
Answer: A comprehensive investigation covering all aspects of the case is underway. Consequently, all potential issues are being addressed, and appropriate clarifications will be provided at this stage.
Question: Another concern raised is that Twisha’s body was taken down from the noose and transported to the hospital without police being called to the scene first, where she was later declared “brought dead.”
Answer: This is a critical point in our ongoing investigation, and we are actively working on it. There are CCTV cameras at her home, and we are currently retrieving footage. We are also looking into the circumstances surrounding her transport to the hospital. As the case is still under investigation, we have not reached any definitive conclusions. However, I assure you that every aspect of this case will be thoroughly examined, and actions will be based on the investigation’s results.
Question: Co-accused Giribala Singh has claimed that Twisha was addicted to drugs and would tremble when she did not receive her dosage.
Answer: So far, the police have not found any solid information or evidence to confirm this claim. If such allegations arise, they will also be investigated. Twisha Sharma was found dead on the night of May 12 in her in-laws’ home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. An FIR has been filed against her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, under provisions related to dowry death and harassment.
