Indias Gem and Jewelry Exports Surge by 12.52% in August 2026

New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : India’s gem and jewelry export sector has shown remarkable growth, with exports reaching ₹21,945.87 crore in August 2026, marking a 12.52% increase compared to the previous year. This surge reflects the growing demand for Indian jewelry in global markets and a shift towards value-added products.

According to a report from the Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the standout category was studded gold jewelry, which saw exports rise by 64.96% to $642.85 million. In dollar terms, this category experienced a 51.22% increase, driven by strong demand from key markets including the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and France.

The GJEPC emphasized that this trend is significant for India’s gem and jewelry industry, as an increasing number of diamonds are being utilized in finished jewelry produced domestically. This shift is creating more value within the manufacturing chain, leading to increased job opportunities and stimulating economic activity.

Kirit Bhansali, president of GJEPC, remarked that the performance in August highlights the resilience and adaptability of the Indian gem and jewelry sector. He noted that the rise in diamond export volumes and the sharp increase in studded gold jewelry exports indicate that India is not solely dependent on raw or semi-processed products but is also strengthening its global position in the value-added jewelry market.

While export values for cut and polished diamonds faced pressure, volumes increased. In August 2025, exports of cut and polished diamonds stood at 1.294 million carats, rising to 1.336 million carats in August 2026. This suggests sustained global demand, despite price pressures affecting value-based figures.

During the April to August 2026 period of the fiscal year, gold jewelry exports (both plain and studded) rose by 7% to ₹47,853.03 crore. However, plain gold jewelry exports fell by 11.44%, while studded gold jewelry exports surged by 26.73%. Additionally, exports of cut and polished diamonds decreased by 7.38%.

The report also highlighted a significant 35.57% increase in silver jewelry exports, while platinum jewelry exports rose by 19.67% to ₹953.36 crore. Furthermore, polished lab-grown diamonds saw an 11.76% increase in exports during the same period, reaching ₹5,076.61 crore, reflecting the growing popularity of this emerging segment. However, exports of colored gemstones experienced a slight decline of 1.92%.
