New Delhi, August 2: India’s coal production reached 69.75 million tons in July 2026, marking a 7.51% increase year-on-year. This growth is largely attributed to the enhanced output from Coal India Limited (CIL) and consistent increases across the sector. The information was released by the Ministry of Coal on Sunday.
According to the ministry’s official statement, coal production in July 2025 was 64.88 million tons.
During July, coal dispatches also improved, rising by 17.34% to 86.33 million tons, compared to 73.57 million tons in the same month last year.
The ministry noted that the ongoing rise in production and dispatches demonstrates its commitment to ensuring a stable coal supply in the country and maintaining operational efficiency across the sector.
In the first four months of the current fiscal year, India’s cumulative coal production reached 302.24 million tons, while cumulative coal dispatches were recorded at 354.70 million tons. This reflects a 5.87% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year.
Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed significantly to the total production, producing 50.35 million tons of coal in July, an increase of 8.42% from the same period last year. Additionally, the company dispatched 63.67 million tons of coal in July, which is 17.43% more than in July 2025.
For the April-July period of the fiscal year 2026-27, CIL’s cumulative coal dispatch also saw a 6.81% increase compared to the same timeframe last year.
The Ministry of Coal reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the pace of development in the sector, increasing coal availability, and reducing India’s dependence on imports. The continuous rise in production and dispatches further strengthens the coal sector’s vital role in enhancing the country’s economic growth and energy security.
