Kuwait City, March 30: The Kuwaiti government announced that an Indian worker was killed in an attack by Iran on a power and desalination plant early Monday morning. This incident raises the death toll of Indian nationals in the ongoing conflict in West Asia to at least eight.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water confirmed on social media platform X that a service building at the plant was also damaged, condemning the assault as an “Iranian aggression” against the Gulf nation.
In a statement, the ministry said, “One employee (an Indian national) lost his life, and the building sustained severe damage.”
Authorities reported that emergency and technical response teams were dispatched immediately to manage the situation, minimize damage, and prevent major disruptions to the plant’s operations.
The ministry emphasized that “the safety and stability of electricity and water infrastructure are of utmost priority,” and technical teams are actively working to mitigate any further risks to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential services.
This incident follows a tragic event in the United Arab Emirates, where an Indian citizen was killed last Thursday in Abu Dhabi when a ballistic missile was intercepted, resulting in injuries from debris.
At that time, the Indian embassy stated it was “working closely with UAE authorities to provide all possible support and assistance to those affected.”
Following an inter-ministerial review meeting on Friday, the government reported that seven Indian nationals had been killed in the Middle East conflict, with one person still missing. The death toll has now risen after Monday’s incident.
The conflict has now entered its fifth week, beginning with coordinated attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, escalating tensions in the region.
Subsequently, Iranian forces targeted U.S. military sites in Israel and Gulf countries with drone and missile attacks, causing casualties and significant damage to critical infrastructure.
