
Chennai, April 4: In an electrifying match on Friday evening, the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced off against Punjab Kings, who were in search of their first title, at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Punjab triumphed over CSK by 5 wickets, thanks to a stellar performance by opener Priyansh Arya, who set the tone with his aggressive batting. Arya was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings.
After the match, Priyansh Arya stated, “My style of play has always been this way since childhood. Whenever I feel it will benefit the team, I play accordingly. It requires taking some risks. I trust myself that if I can hit the first ball, I will go for it. At this level, you encounter experienced bowlers, but I have confidence in my abilities, and it pays off.”
He further added, “I love batting, which is why I practice a lot. I bat in two sessions a day, with each session lasting an hour and a half.”
Opening for Punjab, Priyansh made an immediate impact by hitting a four and a six off the first two balls. The left-handed batsman scored 47 runs off just 11 balls, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes, effectively shifting the momentum of the match in favor of his team.
Looking at the match details, Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first. CSK, batting first, managed to score 209 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, with Ayush Mhatre contributing 73 runs off 43 balls, including 5 sixes and 6 fours. Shivam Dube added 45 runs off 27 balls, while Sarfaraz Khan scored 32 runs off 12 balls, hitting 1 six and 6 fours.
In response, Punjab chased down the target with 5 wickets in hand, scoring 210 runs in 18.4 overs. Priyansh’s 39 runs, along with Prabhsimran’s 43 runs off 34 balls and captain Shreyas Iyer’s 50 runs off 29 balls, which included 3 sixes and 4 fours, secured the victory for Punjab.
