Nishin, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian women’s cricket team secured a spot in the final of the Asian Games 2026 by defeating Bangladesh by 114 runs in a thrilling semifinal match held at Korogi Sports Park. This matchup mirrored the recent Women’s Asia Cup 2026, where the final will again feature India against Sri Lanka.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat first. The Indian team posted an impressive total of 195 runs for the loss of four wickets, largely thanks to a stunning century from opener Shafali Verma. Shafali achieved her first international T20 century, scoring an explosive 100 runs off just 49 balls, including nine sixes and three fours.
With this remarkable performance, Shafali matched the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian woman, previously held by Smriti Mandhana, who had set the benchmark in 2018 against New Zealand.
In addition to Shafali’s heroics, Smriti Mandhana contributed 37 runs from 19 balls, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 40 runs off 33 balls, hitting six boundaries.
For Bangladesh, Marufa Akhtar, Sanjida Akhtar, Rabia Khan, and Nahida Akhtar each took one wicket during the innings.
Chasing a target of 196 runs, the Bangladeshi team struggled and was bowled out for just 81 runs in 15.4 overs. Opener Dilara Akhtar was the top scorer for her side with 24 runs.
On the bowling front, Nandini Sharma and Deepti Sharma were the standout performers for India, each claiming three wickets. Sri Charani contributed with two wickets, while Kranti Gaud and Shreyanka Patil took one wicket each.
The Indian team will now face Sri Lanka in the final, scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 AM IST. Sri Lanka advanced to the final by defeating Pakistan in the first semifinal. Meanwhile, Pakistan and Bangladesh will compete for the bronze medal, with their match also taking place on Tuesday at 5:30 AM IST.
