Indian Team Must Elevate Performance to Defeat England: Shivam Dubes Coach Satish Samant

Mumbai, March 5: The Indian cricket team is set to face England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The winning team will advance to the final against New Zealand on March 8 in Ahmedabad. Shivam Dube’s coach, Satish Samant, emphasized that the Indian team needs to elevate its performance to secure victory against England.

In an interview, Samant noted, “The pitch for the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium will be similar to the one used for the semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand in Kolkata. There might be a bit more bounce at Wankhede. The pitch tends to assist fast bowlers at the start of the match. Therefore, if we win the toss, opting to bowl first would be a better choice. Dew will play a crucial role. If there is significant dew, bowling in the second innings will be challenging, making it tough to defend a total of 200 runs. Hence, bowling first is advisable.”

Samant acknowledged that while England’s bowling attack is strong, if India has to bat first, they should aim for a score between 210 and 215. “Our batsmen are accustomed to playing at Wankhede, so achieving that score should be feasible. This will work to our advantage. Meanwhile, while bowling, India should strive to restrict England to under 200 runs, as totals above that can influence the match’s outcome.”

He also mentioned that players from the Mumbai Indians, who are familiar with this pitch, could perform well in this match. “Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are likely to excel. Shivam Dube can also contribute significantly. The roles of Hardik and Shivam will be crucial, as both can effectively finish the innings during the middle overs. If our openers, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, bat well, it will strengthen our position in the match.”

Regarding Shivam Dube, he stated, “Shivam has performed well in the opportunities he has received. Any player can have one or two off matches. However, Shivam has made the most of his chances so far, including a half-century. I believe he will deliver an impactful innings in the semi-final.”

On England’s performance, he remarked that as the tournament progressed, the team’s form has consistently improved. Captain Harry Brook is in good form, and lower-order batsmen are contributing runs. The victory against New Zealand in the Super-8 has boosted the team’s confidence. England also boasts bowlers like Jofra Archer, against whom India will need to play cautiously.

Samant concluded by reiterating that the Indian team must elevate its performance to defeat England in the semi-final.
