Mumbai, May 6: The Indian stock market closed on a positive note on Wednesday, buoyed by hopes of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran. This optimism led to a significant uptick in global markets. After a day of fluctuations, both major benchmarks, the Sensex and Nifty, ended with gains of over 1 percent.
At the close, the BSE Sensex rose by 940.73 points, or 1.22 percent, reaching 77,958.52. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty50 gained 298.15 points, or 1.24 percent, closing at 24,330.95.

This market rally followed a report indicating that the US and Iran are nearing an agreement to resolve their Middle Eastern conflict, which has led to a significant drop in oil prices.

All sectoral indices, except for Nifty FMCG, traded in the green. Notable gains were seen in the Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Realty, Nifty Auto, Nifty Private Bank, and Nifty Pharma indices, all recording increases of over 2 percent. In the Nifty 50 pack, stocks such as Indigo, TMPV, Shriram Finance, Trent, Asian Paints, SBI, Bajaj Auto, Axis Bank, Adani Enterprises, and HDFC Bank recorded increases ranging from 3 to nearly 7 percent, making them the top gainers. Conversely, ONGC, Reliance, Powergrid, NTPC, L&T, Hindalco, Coal India, and HCL Tech experienced the most significant declines.
