New Delhi, June 23: Indian naval ships have arrived in Vietnam as part of an operational deployment under the Eastern Fleet. According to the Navy, INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti docked at Nha Rong Port in Ho Chi Minh City on June 22. These warships are designed and built indigenously. The naval task force is led by Rear Admiral Alok Anand, the Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Fleet.
Notably, INS Udaygiri is a state-of-the-art stealth frigate, while INS Kavaratti is an advanced corvette equipped for anti-submarine warfare. Both vessels exemplify India’s indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities and self-reliant naval strength. During their port visit, the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy will engage in various professional activities, including discussions among military experts, cross-deck visits, joint sports competitions, and community outreach programs.
Additionally, high-level meetings will be held between senior naval officials from both countries. These discussions will focus on regional maritime security, cooperation, and shared interests. The visit of Indian naval ships to Vietnam holds special significance, especially after India and Vietnam upgraded their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership level in May 2026. This marks the Indian Navy’s first major presence in Vietnam since that agreement.
This visit is expected to deepen and strengthen defense and maritime cooperation between the two countries in the Indo-Pacific region. Furthermore, it will reinforce their shared commitment to regional stability, security, and freedom of navigation. The Indian Navy’s deployment is a significant step toward enhancing maritime collaboration with friendly nations, showcasing India’s active role in the region and strengthening international engagement.
Upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, the Indian warships received a formal and warm welcome from the Vietnam People’s Navy, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, and port authorities. This reception symbolizes the longstanding friendly relations between the two navies and the continuously strengthening maritime partnership.
