New Delhi, July 28: The Lok Sabha is set to discuss the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, with key leaders from both the opposition and the ruling party participating. From the Congress party, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal, and Jothimani Senniamalai will present their views. On the ruling side, Anurag Thakur, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhola Singh, Sanjay Jaiswal, and Vishnu Datt Sharma will take part in the discussion.
On Monday, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh introduced the ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.’
Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that the discussion on the bill would take place at 2 PM. He urged members not to disrupt the proceedings during question hour. However, disruptions continued, leading to the Lok Sabha’s proceedings being adjourned until 2 PM.
This bill aims to amend the ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.’
The proposed amendments seek to enhance transparency and integrity in the examination system through stringent legal provisions. The goal is to ensure the protection of students’ futures.
Key features of the bill include severe penalties, such as imprisonment for up to 10 years, fines up to ₹10 crore, asset confiscation, and a provision to ensure that cases are resolved within three months.
This initiative follows significant protests in the national capital over the issue. The central cabinet has approved the bill and its associated provisions, which aim to establish fast-track courts and impose strict penalties for paper leaks and examination fraud.
This move comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a comprehensive bill with stringent measures against paper leaks would be introduced in Parliament.
According to the bill, fast-track courts will be required to complete hearings and deliver judgments within three months to ensure swift justice in examination-related offenses.
