Mumbai, June 7: A new debate has emerged regarding Indian music in today’s world. Some believe that the growing influence of global music is impacting the originality of Indian music, while others see it as a new opportunity. Renowned music composer Jigar Saraiya, part of the famous duo Sachin-Jigar, shared his thoughts on this matter.
In an interview with a news agency, Jigar Saraiya emphasized the responsibility of Indian artists and audiences to promote their music on a global scale and showcase its strength to the world.
While promoting his new film “Chand Mera Dil,” Jigar stated, “There is no need to fear global music. If new music is trending worldwide, Indian artists should consider how they can also bring their music to the same platform. The real challenge is not the popularity of music from other countries, but how to reach more people with Indian music.”
He added, “The greatest strength of Indian music lies in its diversity. Indian music can easily blend with any genre while still maintaining its identity. The unique charm of Indian tunes, melodies, and voices captivates artists around the globe. Therefore, Indian musicians should trust in the power of their music and strive to take it to larger stages.”
Jigar further illustrated his point by mentioning a recent instance where a well-known international artist incorporated a snippet of the legendary singer Asha Bhosle’s voice into their new music. This is not the first time Indian music or voices have been appreciated worldwide. Numerous examples exist that prove the expanding reach of Indian music.
He continued, “Whenever they meet foreign artists or producers, they view Indian music not as a local style but as a global genre. The uniqueness of Indian music is its greatest identity. People around the world appreciate Indian music for its distinct melodies, unique rhythms, and emotional depth. Just as Indian audiences respect foreign artists, they should also take pride in their own music and artists.”
