New Delhi, August 22: The Indian mixed disability team returned home on Friday after competing in a seven-match T20 series against England. The series concluded with a narrow 3-4 loss for India, but captain Dheeraj expressed pride in the team’s performance, stating they were very close to winning.
In an interview, Dheeraj described the series as thrilling and emphasized that the Indian team was on the brink of victory. He noted that both the team and individual players were satisfied with their performances. The captain credited the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for providing the opportunity to play at the international level with adequate facilities.
He also praised the team management and highlighted upcoming major tournaments and league matches that players will focus on. Dheeraj mentioned that during this time, players would also work on their fitness.
Ravi Chauhan, founder and general secretary of the Differently-Abled Cricket Council of India, commended the Indian team’s efforts. Despite losing the series 3-4, he pointed out that the team delivered an outstanding performance at Lord’s, defeating England by 118 runs in a dominant display. Chauhan noted that while England’s mixed disability team has been competing for seven years, the Indian team has only been active for two years, making their performance all the more impressive.
Reflecting on the victory at Lord’s, he remarked that winning at such a prestigious venue is a dream for every player, and the Indian team achieved a remarkable win there. Chauhan assured that more effort would be put into developing the team and its players to secure a trophy in the future.
After their victory over England in the seventh T20 match, the Indian team celebrated by waving their T-shirts in the air, reminiscent of Saurav Ganguly’s iconic celebrations, a moment that quickly went viral.
