New Delhi, April 8: In response to the recent two-week ceasefire amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East and the US-Iran conflict, various reactions are emerging from India. Religious and social leaders are emphasizing peace and diplomatic solutions to the crisis.
Kari Ishaq Gora, a prominent Deobandi scholar and patron of the Jamiat Dawat-ul-Muslimeen, stated that Indians have always valued love and reconciliation over war. He praised the relationships that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained with leaders from Gulf nations, noting that seeking their counsel is commendable. Gora highlighted Modi’s effective role during the global turmoil following the Iran conflict, as he consistently engaged in dialogue with Gulf leaders to prevent further escalation. He expressed hope that the Prime Minister could help halt the ongoing war.
Dr. Agha Syed Mudasir Rizvi, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Majlis-ul-Ulama Imamiyah, described the ceasefire as a victory for Iran. He remarked that while Iran did not initiate the conflict, it faced an unexpected attack from adversaries. He emphasized that this situation is not only a triumph for Iran but also a relief for oppressed people worldwide, breaking the tradition of yielding to superpowers.
Rizvi noted that the Indian populace has conveyed solidarity with Iran, including support from Kashmiris. He pointed out that the war raised global concerns, affecting oil and gas supplies, prompting countries to strive for peace, with India playing a significant role.
He warned that if the US and Israel are not restrained, the conflict could lead to widespread devastation. While the ceasefire lasts, it appears that adversaries may have conceded to Iran.
Rizvi also mentioned that this development has shifted the global balance of power, a sentiment echoed by both India and Pakistan. He advised Arab nations to become self-reliant, as Israel seeks to avoid peace in favor of conflict. He cautioned that any disputes during the ceasefire could provoke renewed attacks from Israel.
Nusrat Malik, a Shia Muslim woman from Ramban, expressed her happiness over Iran’s perceived victory. She stated that while Iran desired peace, the conflict was instigated by the US, which should refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other nations.
