New York, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar held discussions with foreign ministers from the European Union and several Indo-Pacific nations in New York. This meeting emphasized mutual cooperation to uphold the fundamental principles of international law. The ministers gathered ahead of the high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is set to begin on Tuesday.
Following the meeting, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski shared insights on social media platform X, highlighting that a key topic of discussion was the collaboration between Europe and the Indo-Pacific region to safeguard international law.
Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction in connecting with EU counterparts, noting that the discussions included India-EU cooperation, multilateral issues, and current global events, particularly focusing on the Gulf region, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific situation.
The meeting also saw participation from several Indo-Pacific foreign ministers, including Australia’s Penny Wong and South Korea’s Park Jin.
Sikorski further noted that the informal gathering explored ways to enhance the United Nations’ role in maintaining international peace and security, as well as improving coordination on international platforms. The ministers also deliberated on establishing a shared framework for technology, especially concerning artificial intelligence (AI).
During the UN High-Level Week, Jaishankar also met with Switzerland’s Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis. They reviewed the strengthening economic ties between India and Switzerland following the implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). Both leaders exchanged views on global issues and ways to bolster multilateral cooperation. Jaishankar shared details of this meeting on X, highlighting the ongoing development of their economic relationship and discussions on enhancing global collaboration.
