New York, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, arrived in New York on Monday afternoon with a diplomatic delegation to participate in the 81st annual session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi will advocate for the Islamic Republic of Iran during the summit.
Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, shared this news via a post on the social media platform X. He noted that Araghchi will engage in discussions and meetings at the UN headquarters, addressing various agenda items and presenting Iran’s stance.
In addition to participating in the assembly, Araghchi is expected to hold talks with officials and foreign ministers from several countries attending the conference. Baghaei mentioned that the 81st annual session will commence on Tuesday with speeches from heads of state, centered around the theme of “Rebuilding Trust.”
Earlier on Monday, the United States denied a visa to the communication team of Iranian President Masoud Pageishkian. While the U.S. granted approval for the Iranian delegation to attend the General Assembly, certain restrictions remain in place, similar to those enforced last year. For instance, the U.S. State Department stated that the Iranian delegation would not be permitted to purchase luxury goods or other items.
Iranian media reported that President Pageishkian’s communication team was denied entry, with a spokesperson confirming that he is set to address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday. Pageishkian is scheduled to depart for New York on Tuesday.
