Indian Finance Minister Begins Official Visit to France to Strengthen Economic Ties

New Delhi, July 1: Indian Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman commenced her official visit to France on Wednesday. The primary goal of this trip is to enhance the strategic partnership between India and France, deepen economic cooperation, and promote investment, technological collaboration, and innovation through several high-level meetings.

A key highlight of the visit will be the India-France Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) held in Aix-en-Provence, co-chaired by Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and France’s Minister of Economy, Finance, Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Roland Lescure.

During this dialogue, both nations will explore new opportunities for collaboration across various sectors and discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral economic relations.

While in France, the Finance Minister will hold separate meetings with CEOs of several global companies. Additionally, she will participate in a roundtable discussion with leading industrialists.

These meetings will showcase India’s robust economic position, structural reforms initiated by the government, growing investment opportunities, and long-term growth prospects to global investors.

Nirmala Sitharaman will also take part in a special panel discussion on “How to Promote the Development of the New Middle-Class Population.” This discussion is part of the Les Rencontres Économiques d’Aix-en-Provence, regarded as one of Europe’s most prestigious annual economic and public policy forums.

The conference is organized by Le Cercle des Économistes, featuring heads of state, ministers, central bank governors, industrialists, economists, academics, and representatives from international organizations discussing global economic challenges.

During her visit, the Finance Minister will tour the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project located in Cadarache, one of the world’s largest nuclear fusion energy projects, involving over 30 countries, including India and France.

She will also visit Campus Cyber, France’s national center for cybersecurity, research, and skills development. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cybersecurity between the two nations, enhancing innovation in the digital economy, and exchanging best practices.

Furthermore, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will meet with Renard Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region. This meeting will address opportunities for collaboration in investment, innovation, clean energy, technology, and regional economic partnerships.
