Indian Embassy Issues Advisory for Citizens in Mali Amid Armed Attacks

Bamako, April 26: The Indian Embassy in Mali has issued an advisory for Indian citizens residing in the country following a series of armed attacks by militant groups. The embassy has urged all Indians to remain extremely vigilant, exercise caution, and stay indoors.

In a statement, the embassy said, “In light of recent security incidents and reports of attacks in various parts of Mali, including Kati, all Indian nationals are advised to remain highly alert, take necessary precautions, stay inside their homes, and strictly adhere to instructions issued by the Malian authorities.”

The embassy has confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with Malian authorities and will provide further updates as necessary.

Indian citizens have also been encouraged to stay connected through the embassy’s official website and social media accounts on Facebook and X.

Earlier on Saturday, the Malian army confirmed attempts by armed terrorist groups to attack several cities in the country; however, the situation is now under control.

In a statement released around 11 AM local time, the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces reported that the attackers suffered significant losses due to the army’s counter-offensive.

According to the statement, a comprehensive operation by security forces is ongoing, resulting in the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of their equipment.

The army has urged the public to seek information only from official sources, remain calm, and refrain from sharing videos or messages that could incite fear or confusion among the populace.

Local sources reported loud explosions and gunfire near the military camp in Kati, located close to the capital, Bamako.

Security sources indicated that simultaneous attacks were launched on various bases and military barracks in the capital and interior regions of the country.

Notably, earlier this month, the Malian army destroyed a training camp located 20 kilometers north of Markala in the Segou region, seizing a large quantity of military supplies and improvised explosive devices.
