Glasgow, August 1: The dominance of Indian boxers continued on the ninth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain, along with Sakshi and Priya, won their respective semi-final matches, ensuring at least three more silver medals for the country.
All ten Indian boxers successfully reached the finals in their weight categories. Preeti (54 kg), Ankush Fangal (80 kg), Jasmin (57 kg), Arundhati (70 kg), and Jadumani Singh (55 kg) are among the other Indian boxers who secured their spots in the finals.
On Friday, Lovlina was the standout Indian star in the ring. She lived up to her reputation, defeating Tuvalu’s Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Tafaki 5-0 to secure her place in the finals. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and gold medalist at the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi received a bye in the first round, advancing to the semi-finals without stepping into the ring. After securing her medal, the 28-year-old boxer from Assam entered the finals with a stunning victory.
Sakshi also excelled in the women’s 51 kg category, winning against Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall with a unanimous decision of 5-0. She maintained dominance throughout the match, leaving her opponent with no chance to recover. All five judges declared her the clear winner, with scores of 30-27, 30-26, 30-27, 30-27, and 30-25, demonstrating her lead in all three rounds.
Following her, Priya defeated England’s L. Kings-Whitley 5-0 in the women’s 60 kg semi-final, securing at least one silver medal for India. Sachin (60 kg) also advanced to the finals by defeating Harris-Allen (Wales) 5-0, maintaining India’s 100% win record on semi-final day in boxing.
In a significant result of the day, Arundhati stunned Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medalist R. Ecless to enter the finals. Narendra Berwal also secured his finals ticket by defeating Trinidad and Tobago’s boxer Nigel Paul 5-0 in the 90 kg category.
