Linda Noskova Withdraws from Wuhan Open Due to Calf Injury

New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : World No. 6 player Linda Noskova has announced her withdrawal from the Wuhan Open due to a calf injury in her left leg. She pulled out before the initial match schedule was released, allowing ninth-seeded Belinda Bencic to take her place in the draw, giving Bencic a bye into the second round.

Following Bencic, the next seeded player, Anna Kalinskaya, will enter the draw at line 9 and face Zhang Shuai in the first round. A “lucky loser” will be added to Kalinskaya’s original spot before the tournament begins on Monday, with the finals set for October 18.

Noskova’s withdrawal marks her as the latest player to exit the tournament. Previously, World No. 1 Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, Amanda Anisimova, and others have also withdrawn. Additionally, Oleksandra Oliynykova had to withdraw on Sunday due to a right ankle injury, with qualifier Aoi Ito stepping in for her.

This decision comes just days after Noskova secured her spot alongside Mira Andreeva for their first WTA Finals. The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 8 to 15 in Indian Wells.

The WTA announced on Friday that two of the tour’s most exciting young talents, Andreeva and Noskova, have qualified for the WTA Finals in Indian Wells. The 19-year-old Andreeva and 21-year-old Noskova are now the third and fourth players to secure their places for this prestigious event, joining World No. 1 Elena Rybakina and two-time WTA Finals runner-up Aryna Sabalenka in the draw. Both Andreeva and Noskova will make their debuts in the WTA Finals singles competition, while Andreeva has also qualified for doubles with Diana Schneider in 2025.

In addition to her first Grand Slam title, Noskova has achieved notable success, including a victory at the WTA 500 Berlin Open on grass, reaching the semifinals at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells, and advancing to the quarterfinals at the US Open, marking her best performance to date.
