
New Delhi, June 13: The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced the inclusion of Jyoti (48 kg) and Akash (75 kg) in the Indian team for the ‘World Boxing Cup 2026 Stage 2’. With their addition, the number of boxers representing India has increased from 18 to 20, comprising 10 male and 10 female athletes. The competition is set to commence in Guiyang, China, on Monday.
Initially, Jyoti and Akash were not part of the final team approved by the government. However, BFI President Ajay Singh took steps to ensure their participation, allowing them to join the Indian contingent in Guiyang for the World Boxing Cup Stage 2.
Joining the team will provide Jyoti and Akash with valuable international experience and the opportunity to compete against top-level athletes. They will also earn crucial ranking points on the international circuit.
Ajay Singh stated, “Our primary responsibility is towards the athletes. International competitions play a vital role in a boxer’s development. Every deserving athlete should have the chance to test themselves against the best in the world. Jyoti and Akash have worked hard to earn this opportunity. It is essential for them to compete, gain experience against top international players, and develop at the highest level.”
The Indian team for the World Boxing Cup 2026 (Stage 2) includes:
Women’s Team: Jyoti (48 kg), Meenakshi (51 kg), Poonam (54 kg), Prachi (57 kg), Mahi Lama (60 kg), Sneh (65 kg), Gitimoni G. (70 kg), Sanamacha C. (75 kg), Naina (80 kg), and Alfiya Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan (80+ kg).
Men’s Team: Rishi S. (50 kg), Nikhil (55 kg), Anmol (60 kg), Avinash Jamwal (65 kg), Deepak (70 kg), Akash (75 kg), Malsawmtlunga (80 kg), Jugnu (85 kg), Harsh Chaudhary (90 kg), and Sawan G. (90+ kg).
