Three AAP Legislators Join BJP, Claim Punjab Needs Strong Leadership

In a significant political shift, three AAP legislators have joined BJP, asserting the need for strong governance in Punjab ahead of the 2027 elections.

New Delhi, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : In a notable political development, three legislators from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for 2027. The announcement was made on Monday in the presence of Punjab BJP chief and senior party leaders.

The defecting legislators—Harmit Singh Pathanmajra, Chetan Singh Jauramajra, and Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh—expressed their belief that Punjab requires BJP’s strong leadership to combat issues like drug abuse. Punjab BJP President Kaul Singh Dhillon welcomed them on social media, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to bring development and peace to every household in Punjab.

During a press conference, Dhillon expressed his satisfaction over the growing number of leaders joining the BJP, stating that public trust in the party is at an all-time high. He pointed out that meaningful progress in Punjab is only achievable with a “double-engine” government. Notably, one of the defectors is a cabinet minister, and Dhillon hinted at more leaders joining the BJP soon.

Virendra Sachdeva, co-in-charge of BJP Punjab, highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal. He claimed that incidents of drug trafficking, extortion, and gang-related activities have surged in the past five years, leading to a breakdown of law and order in the state.

Harmit Singh Pathanmajra stated that he feels fortunate to join the BJP, noting that the party’s leadership has assured him that their concerns will be addressed. He emphasized the need for industrial development in Punjab and referred to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s commitment to eradicating drugs, expressing confidence that the BJP will fulfill its promises.

Vijay Pratap Singh, another defector, criticized the current leadership, questioning who truly governs Punjab—Bhagwant Mann or Arvind Kejriwal. He raised concerns about the treatment of Swati Maliwal and alleged that the current Chief Minister is hiding from accountability. Singh stressed the urgency of saving Punjab from its current challenges, stating that the constitution is at risk in the state.

The shift signifies a crucial moment for Punjab politics as the BJP aims to strengthen its foothold in the region ahead of the upcoming elections.
