Indian Army Launches Free Coaching Program for Underprivileged Students in Doda
The Indian Army has initiated an 8-week free coaching program in Doda to help underprivileged students prepare for military school entrance exams.

Doda, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Army is taking significant steps to connect students from remote and underprivileged areas of Jammu and Kashmir with mainstream education. In a commendable initiative, the Assam Rifles unit based in Thalila, Doda district, has launched an eight-week free coaching program aimed at preparing students for the All India Sainik School entrance examination.
The program was formally inaugurated by Brigadier Vikrant S. S. Shinde, commander of the 9 Sector National Rifles, in the presence of numerous students and their parents at the Assam Rifles battalion headquarters in Thalila.
This initiative seeks to provide equal opportunities for talented yet resource-deprived students from districts like Doda to gain admission to prestigious institutions like Sainik Schools. Many students in rural areas often miss out on national-level competitive exams due to a lack of proper guidance and coaching. The Army’s program aims to bridge this gap.
Brigadier Shinde shared that an initial screening test was conducted across various government and private schools in Doda, resulting in the selection of 60 deserving students. These students will receive specialized coaching over the next eight weeks, with experienced teachers brought in from West Bengal to guide them on exam patterns, syllabus, and preparation strategies.
During the inauguration, students expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude towards the Indian Army for providing this opportunity. One student remarked, “The Army has given us a great chance. It was my dream to study in a Sainik School. I was selected after taking the exam conducted by the Army, and now I will receive free coaching. I thank the Army for this.”
Another student shared her journey, stating, “I am here because of the Indian Army. I passed the exam for the Sainik School and my goal is to join the Army in the future. If the Army hadn’t provided this opportunity, I might not be here today.”
Brigadier Shinde emphasized that this coaching is not just about passing exams but also about preparing for life’s larger competitive challenges. He stated, “The difference among people is not in their abilities but in the opportunities they receive. When life presents an opportunity, one must seize it with integrity and hard work. Many individuals from this historic Doda district have served the nation by joining the Army.”
He further added that the primary objective of this crucial coaching program is to reduce educational disparities, ensuring that students from remote areas have equal chances to succeed in the All India Sainik School entrance examination.
