Indian Artists Miss Out at Grammy Awards 2026

Los Angeles, February 2: The Grammy Awards 2026 ceremony is underway in Los Angeles, with several Indian artists showing strong entries. However, none of them managed to win a trophy this year.

Though no Indian artist took home an award this time, India’s history at the Grammys remains proud. Legends like Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Zakir Hussain have previously brought glory to the country. This year, three Indian nominees were part of the competition but fell short of victory.

Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Pandit Ravi Shankar and a sitar maestro, received two nominations. Her collaborative EP “Chapter III: VI Returns to Light,” with Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, was nominated for Best Global Music Album. Her track “Daybreak” was also nominated for Best Global Music Performance. Anoushka made history with her 13th nomination but missed out on winning in both categories.

Indo-American jazz pianist Charu Suri earned her first nomination, with her album “Shyan” competing in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category. The fusion band Shakti, featuring Shankar Mahadevan, John McLaughlin, Ganesh Rajagopalan, and V. Selvaganesh, received two nominations for their live album “Mind Explosion” (Best Global Music Album) and the track “Sherni Dream” (Best Global Music Performance). Although Shakti has won Grammys before, they did not win this year.

Siddhant Bhatiaโ€™s album “Sound of Mahakumbh,” nominated for Best Global Music Album, marked his first nomination.

While India missed out on awards this year, the global recognition of these musicians highlights the growing strength of Indian music and its ongoing contributions across classical, fusion, and contemporary genres.
