Chinese Researchers Unveil Worlds First 3D Atlas of Rice Life Cycle

Beijing, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Researchers from various institutions in China have made a significant breakthrough by creating the world’s first 3D spatiotemporal cell atlas of rice. This innovative work was published in the esteemed academic journal Cell on the evening of October 6.

The 3D atlas encompasses the entire developmental process of rice, from seed germination to flowering and grain formation. By integrating genome sequencing, single-cell sequencing, and spatial transcriptome sequencing, this resource offers new insights into rice growth and development, paving the way for improved grain quality.

According to the research team, this achievement identifies the expression sites of specific functional genes throughout the rice development cycle and in various tissues. It opens up new avenues for precisely designed breeding strategies aimed at achieving higher and more stable yields.

This pioneering work, conducted at the Yachouwan National Laboratory, signifies a major advancement in agricultural research, potentially transforming rice cultivation practices globally.
