Indian Ambassador Strengthens Ties with Romanian Students

Bucharest, June 1: The Indian Ambassador to Romania engaged in discussions with Romanian and Indian students on Monday, focusing on ways to enhance relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Manoj Mohapatra met with students from KIIT and KISS at the Indian Embassy in Bucharest. The dialogue centered on strengthening people-to-people connections and increasing student exchanges.

The Indian Embassy shared updates on this meeting via the social media platform X. Last week, the Indian Cultural Day was celebrated in Chisinau, Moldova, organized by the Indo-Mold Business and Cultural Organization in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Bucharest.

The event featured vibrant cultural performances by the Sitara Dance Group. The Indian Embassy described it as a splendid celebration of India’s culture, friendship, and connections among people.

On May 29, Ambassador Mohapatra also participated in the ‘Jilele Clujului’ festival held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. This occasion highlighted the growing friendship and cultural ties between India and Romania.

The Embassy noted that the Indian community in Romania proudly showcased their patriotism and cultural heritage during this event.

Meanwhile, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu on May 28 during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Cyprus.

Following their meeting, the Romanian Foreign Minister stated that both countries are preparing to maximize the benefits of a future India-EU free trade agreement. There are significant collaboration opportunities in sectors such as defense, renewable energy, steel, automobiles, fertilizers, and port infrastructure.

She mentioned that trade between India and Romania is projected to reach $1.2 billion by 2025, reflecting more than a 20% increase compared to 2024. The Romanian Foreign Minister also noted that the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission has been reactivated after an eight-year hiatus, injecting new momentum into bilateral relations and accelerating investments. Both ministers expressed enthusiasm about a potential high-level visit to Romania later this year.
