India Wins Toss Against England in First T20 Match, Opts to Bat First

Chester-le-Street, July 1: The first match of the five T20 series between India and England is taking place at The Riverside Ground. Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first.

After winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer stated, “We will bat first. This is a great opportunity for us. This is my second series as captain, and I am very excited. The pitch has a good amount of grass. I can’t predict how it will play, but our intent will be strong. I am going with three spinners. Axar is an all-rounder, along with two fast bowlers. The Ireland series is now history. Everything in the dressing room is fine and positive.”

England’s captain Harry Brook expressed his satisfaction with the bowling conditions. He said, “The pitch looks good. We have been looking forward to this series against a strong Indian team. Our team has many experienced players. It’s great for me to rely on them during the match. Having players like Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, and Sam Curran is very helpful. Jos Buttler and Salt will open the batting. I will bat at three, Bethel at four, Livingstone at five, and Sam Curran at six.”

Vaibhav Sunilvanshi has once again missed out on a spot in India’s playing eleven, delaying his debut.

India’s playing eleven: Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dubey, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy.

England’s playing eleven: Phil Salt, Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Harry Brook (captain), Jacob Bethel, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Luke Wood.
