Colombo, August 23: The second match of the Test series between India and Sri Lanka is currently underway at the Sinhalese Sports Club Stadium in Colombo. The second session of the Test has been dominated by the Indian team.
By tea, India has scored 187 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their first innings. Devdutt Padikkal, who scored a century in the first Test, continues to impress with a solid performance, amassing 63 runs off 117 balls, including 7 boundaries.
Shubman Gill also showcased his form, contributing with a half-century. He faced 108 balls and scored 50 runs, hitting 6 fours before being caught by wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella off the bowling of Asitha Fernando. Gill and Padikkal shared a crucial partnership of 120 runs for the third wicket, spanning 209 balls.
However, the Indian team’s start was not ideal after winning the toss, with KL Rahul dismissed for just 18 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal also failed to capitalize on a good start, scoring 45 runs off 53 balls before being clean bowled by Asitha Fernando. As the tea break approached, Rishabh Pant was at the crease with just 1 run alongside Padikkal. Asitha Fernando has taken 2 wickets for Sri Lanka, while Lahiru Kumara has claimed 1.
Despite a convincing victory in the first Test, the Indian team made one change to their playing XI for this match. Saransh Jain is making his Test debut in place of Kuldeep Yadav, who is unavailable due to an infection. Captain Gill mentioned at the toss that Saransh can contribute significantly with both bat and ball. Meanwhile, Kamil Mishara is making his Test debut for Sri Lanka. India currently leads the two-match Test series 1-0, having won the first Test by 165 runs.
