India-US Trade Deal Nears Completion, 99% Finalized: Ambassador Sergio Gore

Mumbai, June 3: The proposed India-US trade deal is now 99% complete, with only a few remaining issues being addressed. This statement was made by US Ambassador Sergio Gore during a press briefing in India on Wednesday.

He expressed enthusiasm about finalizing the interim bilateral trade agreement between the two nations. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the City India 2026 conference, Gore noted that officials from both sides are actively engaged in discussions and are committed to completing the agreement. He described the bilateral trade deal as mutually beneficial.

Gore mentioned, “This morning, I met with the American delegation that arrived from Washington, D.C. Our deputy trade negotiators, who have been in discussions in Delhi for several days, are here with a large team.”

He conveyed optimism about the agreement, stating, “We are very hopeful. We have reached 99%, and work is ongoing on the remaining 1%.”

As the talks enter their final stages, the delegation will return to Delhi on Wednesday to meet with the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.

He added, “The delegation is meeting with officials from the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of External Affairs, and we will return to meet with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal tomorrow morning.”

Gore highlighted the rapid pace of the bilateral trade talks, noting that discussions on the proposed India-US trade agreement have been ongoing for nearly a year and a half, while negotiations for a trade deal with the European Union took about 19 years.

He stated, “The United States and India are like-minded partners and are committed to finalizing the agreement. We believe it will be beneficial for both countries, and we are very excited about its possibilities.”
