Jodhpur, July 11: Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat stated on Saturday that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is undergoing a remarkable transformation. The pace of progress has made this changing India a subject of global interest.
The minister noted that the perception of India among other countries has shifted. There is a continuous increase in the number of incoming tourists. The effective implementation of various schemes under the Prime Minister’s guidance has lifted over 250 million people out of poverty. Compared to 2014, the country’s economy is growing at double the rate. Per capita income and farmers’ earnings have also risen, leading to increased disposable income and a boost in domestic tourism.
He further emphasized that the number of foreign visitors coming to explore India’s diversity, cultural richness, geographical variety, and natural beauty is significantly higher. In the future, the tourism sector is expected to become a major contributor to the economy. Currently, tourism accounts for approximately six percent of India’s economy. PM Modi aims to elevate India’s contribution to global GDP from tourism to match the current 10 percent by 2047.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat highlighted that the tourism economy benefits a vast number of people. Once India reaches a 10 percent contribution in this sector, tourism will become the second-largest job creator after agriculture. Our target is to achieve a contribution of up to seven percent by 2023.
